The EMC Foundation board members met in
November to look over the 22 submitted grant requests, and the Foundation has
awarded a total of $30,400 to ten different agencies including:
YWCA - $2400 to provide cribs and
beds for families living in the homeless shelter
Monroe Street Fine Arts Center -
$3000 for scholarships to students in economically needy families
Horizon High School - $3000 to
support services for this alternative high school which provides a
supportive environment for teens committed to being alcohol- and drug-free
Imagine A Child’s Capacity - $3000
for the expansion of their Creative Skills Builders Program, which promotes
children’s literacy
Turn Around Teen – $3,000 to
support their “New Directions” program which provides fee-waived services to
low income youth
Common Wealth Development - $3,000
for their youth-business mentoring program which provides employment
training, financial education, job placements, and mentoring to low-income
and at-risk youth
Nehemiah Community Development
Corporation - $4000 to support their program for survivors of sexual abuse
Hope House Building Corporation -
$4000 to support the Hope House Program, which helps transition homeless
mother with infants to stable, independent living through training,
mentoring, and nurturing
Village of Waunakee - $2000 for
fencing and refurbishing the village’s caboose. We will also ask them to
come in to the shop and talk about possible donated materials for the fence
Interfaith Hospitality Network -
$3,000 for an emergency shelter for homeless families with children
The EMC Foundation has also donated
again to the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission, and of the $15,000 that
the EMC Foundation gifted, a portion of the contribution was awarded to the
following organizations:
Chazen Museum of Art
Madison Symphony Orchestra
Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra
Madison Repertory Theatre
Children’s Theater of Madison
